AKIRA MIYAUCHI

Dr. Miyauchi is President-Emeritus of Kuma Hospital, Center for Excellence in Thyroid Care, Kobe, Japan, where 1,800 operations, including about 1,100 thyroid cancer cases, are performed per year. He is an endocrine surgeon with a particular interest in thyroid and parathyroid diseases. He graduated from Osaka University School of Medicine in 1970 and received his MD and PhD at the same university in 1970 and 1978, respectively. After working at Second Department of Surgery, Osaka University School of Medicine, he was promoted to Second Department of Surgery, Kagawa Medical University, where he served as Associate Professor. In 1998, he was invited to become Vice-President of Kuma Hospital. He served as President of Kuma Hospital from April, 2001 to March, 2022, and now he is President-Emeritus of the hospital continuing clinical and academic works. He is a Visiting Professor of Surgery, Nippon Medical School, Tokyo, Japan and Belgrade University, Belgrade, Serbia. He was Chairman of Asian Association of Endocrine Surgeons from 2012 to 2020. He served President of International Association of Endocrine Surgeons (IAES) from 2019 to 2022. He is a corresponding member of American Association of Endocrine Surgeons and American Thyroid Association as well as a member of Japanese medical societies in the eld of surgery, endocrine surgery, endocrinology and pathology.
