EDNA T. KIMURA

Full Professor at the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology, Institute of Biomedical Sciences (ICB) at the University of São Paulo (USP). She holds a degree in Medicine from the Ribeirão Preto Medical School - University of São Paulo (1980) and obtained a Master's (1990) and Ph.D. (1994) in Medicine (Clinical Endocrinology) from the Paulista School of Medicine - Unifesp, as well as a Habilitation (2005) from ICB-USP. She is a member of the Latin American Thyroid Society (LATS), the American Thyroid Association (ATA), the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), the Brazilian Society for Cell Biology (SBBC), and the Brazilian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism (SBEM), where she served as President of the Thyroid Department (2009-2010). She was Editor-in-Chief of the journal Arquivos Brasileiros de Endocrinologia e Metabologia (2007-2010) and is part of the editorial board of Thyroid, Archives of Endocrinology and Metabolism, and Brazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research. Her research focuses on thyroid cancer and goiter, with an emphasis on the MAPK (BRAF), TGF-beta, iodine, and microRNA signaling pathways, using in vitro and in vivo models that include molecular biology, histology, cell biology, genomics, gene editing, and animal models. She received the LATS Award from the Latin American Thyroid Society in 2009 and the EBT-2016 Award from the Thyroid Department of SBEM in 2016.
