Heike Heuer

Professor Heike Heuer is a Professor of Molecular Thyroidology at the University Hospital Essen - University Duisburg-Essen in Germany. Her research focuses on thyroid hormone actions in the central nervous system, particularly the role of thyroid hormone transporters and treatment strategies for Allan-Herndon-Dudley syndrome. She holds a PhD in neuroendocrinology from the Max-Planck Institute and completed postdoctoral training at Columbia University. She has led neuroendocrinology research groups in Jena and Düsseldorf before her current appointment in Essen. Recognized for her contributions, she was the 2021 British Thyroid Association Pitt-Rivers Lecturer.
