Dr. Kristien Boelaert earned her MD (Summa Cum Laude) from the Catholic University Leuven, Belgium, in 1995, and completed her basic medical training in Wolverhampton, UK. After achieving MRCP in 1998, she pursued a career in Diabetes and Endocrinology and later completed a PhD funded by a Wellcome Clinical Training Fellowship. She became a Clinical Lecturer in Endocrinology in 2004 and received an MRC Clinician Scientist Fellowship in 2007. Dr. Boelaert's research focuses on thyroid tumourigenesis, particularly the role of the proto-oncogene PTTG, and she has developed systems to modulate radioactive iodine uptake, with potential therapeutic applications. Her work also includes translational research on thyroid dysfunction and nodules. Recognized for her contributions, she was awarded the Society for Endocrinology Clinical Review Lectureship in 2004 and has a growing portfolio of peer-reviewed publications. She actively mentors MBChB students and lectures at the College of Medical and Dental Sciences.
