Dr. Maria E. Cabanillas is an Oncologic Endocrinologist and tenured Professor at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, where she serves as Faculty Director of Clinical Research in the Department of Endocrine Neoplasia. Specializing in advanced and aggressive thyroid cancers, she focuses on molecular targeted therapies and immunotherapy. She led the creation of FAST (Facilitating Anaplastic thyroid cancer Specialized Treatment) at MD Anderson, a leading program for treating anaplastic thyroid cancer. Dr. Cabanillas is the principal investigator on multiple clinical trials, contributes to the American Thyroid Association's anaplastic thyroid cancer guidelines, and was a Board Member of the International Thyroid Oncology Group (ITOG) until 2020.
