NADIA SCHOENMAKERS

Nadia Schoenmakers is a clinician-scientist focused on thyroid disorders, particularly congenital hypothyroidism (CH). She investigates the genetic basis of CH and the role of genes in thyroid development and hormone synthesis. Nadia completed her medical degree and PhD in Molecular Endocrinology at the University of Cambridge, where she studied thyroid hormone resistance. Since 2013, she has led research on CH, funded by Wellcome and the British Thyroid Foundation. Currently, she is based at the University of Birmingham, collaborating with institutions like Great Ormond Street Hospital and the Wellcome Sanger Institute.
