Robert Opitz, PhD, is a basic scientist with a strong research focus on developmental aspects of thyroid system function. He spent several years as a post-doc fellow in the lab of Sabine Costagliola at the Institute of Interdisciplinary Research in Human and Molecular Biology (IRIBHM) in Brussels (Belgium). He currently leads the Translational Research Laboratory of the Department of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetology at Charité University Berlin (Germany). His team uses human stem cell-derived models to study the role of thyroid hormones during early brain development.
