TANIA MARIA RUFFONI ORTIGA

Dr. Tânia Ortiga is a Full Professor at the Institute of Biophysics Carlos Chagas Filho at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), a FAPERJ "Cientista do Nosso Estado," and a CNPq researcher. She earned her degree in Biological Sciences from UERJ and completed her master's and Ph.D. in Biophysics at UFRJ. She pursued postdoctoral training at the University of Chicago and Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Ortiga has held key academic leadership roles, including coordinating UFRJ's top-tier graduate program in Biological Sciences (Physiology) and serving as Associate Editor of Thyroid (2013-2021). She is on the editorial boards of several high-impact journals and leads national and international research projects, including a Gates Foundation-funded initiative. She was president of the Basic Endocrinology Department of SBEM (2013-2016) and is a member of multiple scientific societies. In 2014, she founded the Laboratory of Translational Endocrinology, focusing on reproduction, fertility, pregnancy, and thyroid hormone effects.
