MARIA REGINA CASTRO

Dr. Castro is a Professor of Medicine, and Consultant in Endocrinology & Metabolism at Mayo Clinic, Rochester where she currently serves as the Director for the Endocrinology fellowship program. She has been an active member of the American Thyroid Association since 2000, and has served on multiple ATA committees and roles, including among others, the Board of Directors (2014-1028), Patient Education and Advocacy Committee, the Editorial Board of Clinical Thyroidology for Patients, the Trainees & Career Advancement Committee, and the Publications Committee. During her time as Chair of the Patient Education and Affairs committee she lead the effort in developing extensive patient Education material (over 70 brochures and FAQs) and of translating the majority of this material into Spanish. She is a Clinician, Educator, and Clinical investigator. Her main areas of interest include the evaluation of patients with thyroid disorders, especially thyroid nodules and thyroid cancer. She has also served as President (and past-president) of Women in Thyroidology (2019-2021), and received the WIT Woman of the Year Award (2022) and the Distinguished Service Award (2023). She is currently the President-Elect of the American Thyroid Association
