Won Bae Kim, MD, PhD is Professor of Medicine, Endocrinology Division in Asan Medical Center, a teaching hospital of University of Ulsan Medical College in Korea.

At the early stage of his academic career, he showed interest in thyroid autoimmunity but later his research interest moved to thyroid cancer and conducted various clinical and translational research. He has published numerous articles in top-ranking peer reviewed international journals including Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, Endocrine Related Cancer, Thyroid and European Journal of Endocrinology. 

He has contributed AOTA (Asia and Oceania Thyroid Association) greatly. During the last 20 years, he has given to participants very nice, inspiring talk as invited speaker at every AOTA and ITC Meeting.  Moreover, he presented his recent scientific results in oral or poster form at every meeting and these presentations with active discussions were surely very helpful to all the participants.

His research focuses on markers of prognostic significance and on novel therapeutic target in thyroid cancer, specifically, specific changes in cancer cell metabolism.

 Dr. Kim is part of a multi-disciplinary team of thyroid cancer specialists in Asan Medical Center, Seoul, Korea. He had served as Chief of Board of Directors of Korean Thyroid Association from 2015 to 2017.  He organized 12th Asia and Oceania Thyroid Association (AOTA) Congress at Busan, Korea in 2017.  He has been serving as secretary general of AOTA since 2015 to 2020. He was an awardee of Nagataki-Fujifilm prize of AOTA in 2019 based on his academic achievement in thyroid research and contribution to AOTA.

Prof. Kim was elected as the 10th President of the AOTA and leads the AOTA for from year 2021 to 2025. The AOTA, established in 1975, represents the field of thyroidology in Asia and Oceania.
