MICHAEL MINGZHAO XING

Mingzhao Xing, M.D., Ph.D., is Chair Professor and Founding Dean of the School of Medicine at Southern University of Science and Technology, Shenzhen, China. He is also Professor Emeritus of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University, where he was tenured Professor of Medicine, Oncology, and Pathology. American Board-certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism, he was a clinical endocrinologist and Director of the Thyroid Tumor Center at Johns Hopkins Hospital. His seminal work, including the identification and characterization of BRAF V600E and TERT promoter mutations as diagnostic and prognostic markers and therapeutic targets, has contributed considerably to the development of today's genetic-based precision management of thyroid cancer. He has been constantly ranked among the top thyroid scholars globally, being #1 among 43,546 thyroid cancer scholars on the 2024 ScholarGPS ranking for lifetime scientific impact. He received both Paul Starr and Sidney H Ingbar Awards from the American Thyroid Association and is an elected member of the Association of American Physicians.
