Brief Biosketch for professor Laszlo Hegedüs. University of Southern Denmark, Odense, Denmark

 

 

Professor Hegedüs was a senior consultant physician and a full professor at the Department of Endocrinology in Odense, Denmark until late 2021, after which he has continued in an emeritus professor position.

          Major textbooks in Endocrinology, such as Thyroid Diseases, Thyroid, Endocrinology, and Oxford Textbook of Endocrinology and Diabetes include chapters by professor Hegedüs. His 605 publications include a wide variety of aspects of diagnosis and treatment of thyroid diseases published in a broad range of high-ranking endocrine journals, including The New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, Lancet Diabetes and Endocrinology and Nature Reviews of Endocrinology. His H-index (Web of Science) is 84 and he is cited > 33.000 times. His science and willingness to talk and teach has led to more than 900 presentations on five continents.

          Dr. Hegedüs is a previous Editor of Thyroid, and of Clinical Endocrinology. He has mentored more than 50 individuals defending their academic theses. He is a former president of the European Thyroid Association (ETA) as well as the Danish Thyroid Association. Professor Hegedüs is the recipient of several prizes; most recently, the Aldo Pinchera prize from the ETA (2021) and the Danish Thyroid Association’s Distinguished Annual Lecture award (2023). At his own University, University of Southern Denmark, he has received recognition as the best researcher and the best teacher of medical students.
